The annual Redstone MTB and Trail Running Weekend, a CSA sanctioned event, is around the corner and will take place on Friday, 12 and Saturday, 13 May at Buffelskloof, Kruisrivier near Calitzdorp.
Although the main attraction of Redstone is to spend quality time with your family in a spectacular setting, it also offers a chance to do some competitive riding and running. Through the years there were some serious battles for the honours and in 2011 Vickus Boshoff and Marcel Deacon shared first place in the 60km in a record time. Some two time 60km winners through the years were Matthys Beukes, Ischen Stopforth, Yolande de Villiers, Fienie Barnard and Aiden van Niekerk. Hannelie Booyens, Louis Visser and Robyn de Groot are also some of the Redstone alumni. We have invited some of them to join us again.
This year three unique floating trophies, designed and made by local artist Roger Young, will be jointly awarded to the male and female winners. The Hennie, Margaret and Manie Potgieter trophies will be awarded for the 60km MTB race, the 43km MTB race and 20km Trail run respectively.
According to Corne Botha of Jakhals Events, who is the new race organiser, “this race is part of the Eden marathon series and is one of eight races in the series. Jakhals Events will sponsor ten development riders to participate and will cover the entry fee, bicycle and helmet. Identification of new talent is crucial to expose as many kids to cycling. There are development programmes but we need to find the talent first.”
Come and join us for a combination of Klein Karoo hospitality, great racing and a fun filled family weekend.
