TuksSport High School has formed a collaboration with Hein Badenhorst to form a cycling development high school program for young aspiring cyclists. This initiative for 2019 is also privileged to announce the inclusion of Head Coach, Trevor Court, who coached at Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka (formerly Team MTN-Qhubeka) for the past 7 years. Starting in January, Trevor Court will oversee all cycling programs at the University of Pretoria. The program will be based at the University of Pretoria’s High Performance Centre in Hatfield, Pretoria. The athletes will have the opportunity to attend the Tuks Sport High School and have the world class facilities of the High Performance Centre as their training base.

The infrastructure created for the athletes is designed to allow an athlete to pursue their athletic career wholeheartedly while still meeting all the academic demands of high-school. With the school starting at 09:15AM, athletes will be able to complete a morning session before school or sleep in and have a massage on a recovery day. The TuksSport High School will provide accommodation, catering, coaching, massage, physiotherapy, sport psychology sessions as well as supervised strength training for the athletes. In case of injury or illness the HPC also has a medical centre in the building to assist athletes on site.

“I am very excited for this program to help develop the next generation of professional cyclists in South Africa. We aim to focus our program on road cycling, however we will accommodate MTB athletes in our program. We aim to offer the best coaching and facilities to our athletes while keeping academic excellence above all else. The vision is to see promising athletes graduate high school and move straight into international racing programs we are partnering with” – Badenhorst

The program is open to all high school athletes and will require application and an interview process. There will be 10 spots available in the first year as we want to focus on each athlete as an individual. The program will also be open to under 23 athletes who wish to further their education at the University of Pretoria as a student athlete. More information will be made available upon request.
