TEG is proud to announce the registration towards a continental team for 2019. Hein Badenhorst started this initiative and recently obtained the support of TEG to establish this program.
Hein will act as the general manager and DS (directeur sportif) of the team. The team will consist of 10-12 South African riders who will focus their race programme on the UCI continental circuits. The vision for 2019 is to compete in 6-8 International UCI Tours emphasizing UCI Europe- and Asia Tour races.
The team has already acquired invitations to 5 European UCI Tours thanks to our race coordinator, Natalie Harrisova from the Czech Republic. The goal of the team is to create a sustainable structure to allow elite and under 23 South African riders to compete for 40-60 International UCI race days over a season. Our goal is to have riders join our programme for 1-2 years and ultimately progress to Pro-Continental or World Tour teams.
The team is also very excited to announce our partnership with the University of Pretoria’s High Performance Centre which will serve as the base of the team.
“Our partnership with the High Performance Centre adds incredible value to our programme. Their world class facilities will provide the infrastructure for our team with an incredible support structure of physiotherapists, sport scientists and medical staff. The medical- and sport science departments will continuously monitor our riders and use their performance data for cycling specific research at the University. We are privileged to have Future Africa as our accommodation partner who will house our team on the University Campus. All our riders will also be enrolled for higher certificates at the University of Pretoria, furthering their education while they pursue their cycling careers, this is very important to me.”- Badenhorst
“We are privileged to confirm 32 GI and Token as our first partners for sport nutrition and wheels respectively. Our remaining sponsorships for the 2019 season are being finalised and will be announced soon. We have set very realistic goals going into our first season racing internationally. We have full confidence in the riders we have selected to start this program with and we hope to build on this for years to come.”
