The third edition of the Sylvester MTB Challenge will take place on the weekend of 28 – 30 June 2019 in the Karoo National Park, near Beaufort West with the race village at Grantham Camp. As with last year’s event riders will celebrate the freedom of Sylvester, the Karoo Lion, and cycle where he once roamed freely.
The 3-day stage race will start with a 4.1km prologue on Friday, 28 June 2019 where riders can choose between a long or a short 3-day stage race. The Long race will consist of: Day 1. 4,1km prologue, Day 2: 90km, and Day 3: 70km. The Short stage race will test your abilities as follows: Day 1: 4,1km Prologue, Day 2: 50km and Day 3: 43km.
If a 3-day stage race is not your scene, you will be able to enter any of the abovementioned races and ride the Sylvester MTB Challenge as a 1-day race or enter the 11km Trail Run on 29 June.
In addition to the 2018-event tented accommodation will be available at the start and finish venue at Grantham Camp – creating a friendly and comfortable race village. During the past 2 events most riders stayed at the main camp in the Karoo National Park, 35km from the race village at Grantham Camp, while others stayed at Bed and Breakfasts in the surrounding area.
The tented accommodation at this venue will eliminate unnecessarily traveling to and from the venue and assist riders and supporters to experience true Karoo hospitality at its best! Other features at the race village include a bike shop to facilitate minor problems and provide spares and nutrition for last minute shopping.
The podium winners of the Sylvester MTB Challenge will win great meat hampers which include the likes of Kudu, Oryx and Springbok.
“All the riders loved the 2018-event. This is the kind of event once experienced, one can truly talk about – as it is a most unique race within a conservation area. The 2019 Sylvester MTB awaits your arrival to join in the fun at Grantham Camp, see you there!” says Corne Botha of Jakhals events.
