Competing for a worthy cause bigger than yourself is what it’s all about at this years’ IRONMAN African Championships in Port Elizabeth on Sunday, 7 April 2019.

Strand based athlete Jacques Bouwer will take on the challenge to raise funds and awareness for the IRONMAN 4 the Kidz Charity Trust. The IRONMAN 4 the Kidz Charity Trust aims to raise funds annually, ensuring that the Trust can continue to make a tangible difference in the lives of children in need.

This years’ course will see some interesting changes and is sure to challenge even the most seasoned athlete. Starting with a 3.8km ocean swim, followed by a 180km (2 loop+) cycle and finishing with one of the best supported run courses on the IRONMAN circuit, a 4 lap, 42.2km run. Even if you are doing your first or 50th IRONMAN event, you are surely in for a treat.

After conquering the 180km bicycle course supporters line the entire running course, cheering athletes on, every step of the way in true South-African spirit. With the smell of “braaivleis” in the air as supporters fire-up their “skottels” they keep the atmosphere going throughout the gruelling day. Finally, the athletes approach the finish-line to the cheer of spectators. The majestic moment has arrived as you cross the finish-line – “ You are an IRONMAN”!

“A word of thanks to the support of Corporate Guarantee and ATS Transport for their contribution towards the IRONMAN 4 the Kidz Charity Trust,” says Jacques.
