Stellenbosch MTB Challenge at Spier’s Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery

Sunday 28th July sees the Stellenbosch MTB Challenge returning to Spier Wine Farm for another year of family fun.

Children, novice and beginners can enjoy the 22km route whilst the 50km is open for intermediate riders.

Trail runners get to experience the farm on Saturday 27th July with the 5km and 10km annual Spier Farm Run.

Entertainment and refreshments will be geared around the historic grass Werf, of which alongside you will find Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery. Chef PJ Vadas, previously of the HogHouse fame, enticed locals back to Spier with his modern BBQ cuisine.

Since changing the restaurant’s name to reflect his own, Chef PJ has elevated his offering and has been praised for his innovative farm-to-table BBQ-style food.

Whether you carbo-load or fat-load, Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery has options for every athlete to enjoy. Featuring a kiddies menu and indicators of which dishes are gluten free, vegetarian and vegan on request, there is something on the menu for all members of the family. By selecting your favourite dishes that suit your dietary needs, you can build your own platters.

The new winter menu boasts dishes such as Smoked bone marrow flat bread with brisket marmalade; Smoked chicken wings with lemon, poppy seeds and a citrus salsa and Steak tartar with salted mushrooms and grilled sourdough. Meat is not all that this smokehouse offers; Chef PJ Vadas is respected for his innovative vegetarian dishes and the menu offers a large selection of both vegetarian dishes and vegan options. If you’re heading to Vadas, be sure to pre-book your box of Pastéis de Nata. These little tarts might look unassuming, but you will not find one better in South Africa. The crispy-crunchy-buttery pastry encases the oozing custard center and with just the right amount of caramelization, it’s perfection on a plate!
