As a very successful 2018 racing season comes to an end, ProTouch is proud to announce its Continental Team ambitions for 2019. “ProTouch has had a phenomenal 2018, and now we are planning our next goal – to get South Africa back into the #1 Cycling Nation in Africa” announced Tony Harding, ProTouch’s Directeur Sportif today.
ProTouch – which commenced in 2016 – finishes off this season in the Road Cycling Series with Best Tour Rider (Junior and Elite Categories) and is currently [with one event to go] in the Best Overall Series Winner (Junior and Elite Categories), 3rd Place in the Best Young Rider Competition and 2nd Place in the 1-day Classics Competition. These achievements are the culmination of over twenty podiums, six 1-day Classic wins, winning the Tour de Limpopo (UCI 2.2) and Tour de Maurice, 2nd Place at the Tour of Good Hope [1st South African Team, behind Dimension Data Pro Continental Team] and, three podiums at Tour du Rwanda.
“As South Africa is currently ranked 4th behind Eritrea, Algeria and Rwanda – in the UCI Cycling Nations Rankings – there is a lot of work to be done, to get us back into the #1 Cycling Nation in Africa. We kicked off this campaign in August, when we dipped our toes in the water at Africa’s Toughest Tour”, Tony added.
Under the stewardship of Tony Harding [who has more than 25 years’ experience managing some of the best National, Professional, Olympic and Commonwealth Teams, including individual athletes in South Africa and abroad] ProTouch plans to participate in the local South African racing calendar, as well as UCI Africa and Asia Tours in the 2019 Season. The Team has already secured invitations to five UCI Africa Tours, providing its athletes [and guest riders] with the opportunity to earn UCI points that will contribute to improving our ranking as a nation.
ProTouch is proud to continue its sponsorships with A[S]G, Rudy Project, Wilier Triestina, Doppio Zero, Pretoria Box Manufacturers and SpiderTech Taping and, is pleased to announce some new partnerships from Jaguar Sandton, EPIEQ Sports Nutrition, Phezulu and Rockfin. Additional sponsorships including some new media partnerships, to ensure that our sponsors and brands supporting SA Cycling can unlock value from their investments, will also be announced in the coming weeks.
ProTouch Athletes have also been secured, access to a network of top sports medicine and science specialists through Dr Lervasen Pillay – sports physicians, dieticians, podiatrists, chiropractors, physiotherapists, sports scientists and biokineticist – operating from The Wanderers Sports Medicine Clinic, Sandton Sports Medicine Center, MediWorx-s and Constantia Kloof Sports and Exercise Medicine Center. These specialists will be providing every aspect of expert sports science and medicine services to the team.
The official 2019 Team Announcement will be made later this week, which includes some exciting new signings to join our core Team, as well some additional U23 and Junior riders, to continue our development of young talent, to perform at national and international levels.
