The Pedal Power Association is hosting a memorial ride in honour of Lance Botha, a PPA member who tragically died in an accident in Diep River a couple of weeks ago.
“We would like to pay tribute to Lance and all other cyclists who have lost their lives on South African roads. On the fatal, the 5F Cycling Club were out practicing for the upcoming Coronation DC event when a vehicle crossed onto their lane and crashed into the group of riders. A couple of the riders were injured and unfortunately PPA member Lance Botha passed away on the scene. Please join us on Sunday 4 November for our ride to the spot where the accident occurred where we will place a ‘ghost bike’ in remembrance of Lance.”
*A ghost bike (also referred to as a ghostcycle or WhiteCycle) is a bicycle roadside memorial, placed where a cyclist has been killed or severely injured, usually by a motor vehicle. Apart from being a memorial, it is usually intended as a reminder to passing motorists to share the road. We will share a few words before returning to Fish Hoek.
Date : Sunday 4 November
Start Venue: Fish Hoek Beach Parking Area
Time 6h00 for 6h30
Route : Along main road right all the way into Lakeside then right into Westlake Ave, left again into Westlake Drive then onto Spaanschemat, right into Kendall, left into Old Kendall right into Francis Street
