Last year 16 young riders were selected at the Cape Rouleur Young Rider Prologue to join Team Bäckstedt HotChillee in 2017/2018.
These riders took part in Wattbike UCI performance testing at Velokhaya, rode with the Dimension Data World Tour Team in Cape Town and in July this year two will compete in the HotChillee London-Paris, watch the Tour de France finish in Paris and race with Team Bäckstedt HotChillee in Europe. There are up to 100 places for young riders to race the 7.8km Cape Rouleur Young Rider ITT Prologue. Eight riders will be selected for the 2018/2019 programme from the U16 or Junior categories. U23 riders are welcome to race, however will not be eligible for programme selection.
2018/2019 riders will be monitored by UCI Wattbike performance tests, have the opportunity for one-on-one training support and guidance of Paris-Roubaix winner and British Cycling coach Magnus Bäckstedt as well as have the opportunity to compete with Team Backstedt HotChillee at events in SA and Europe. The programme will be supported by the PPA, CSA, Wattbike, Rainmaker, the Western Cape Government, Velokhaya and Lassen Sports.
The Prologue will take place on Sunday 4th March from the Protea Hotel, Franschhoek.
