South Africa’s Mariske Strauss finished in the thirteenth place in the elite women’s cross-country olympic race at the UCI MTB World Cup in Andorra on 8 July 2019, while Anne Terpstra became the first ever Dutch women on the World Cup circuit with a victory over reigning champion Jolanda Neff.
Mariske Strauss gained her best results by finishing in thirteenth place and completed the six lap race in a time of 1:26:01, while fellow South African Candice Lill came 22nd in 1:27:34.
“I am soooooo amped and excited for the next round! But first taking a moment to celebrate CUZ I cracked Top 15,” the Silverback racing rider added.
“This has been a LONG time coming with a LOT of blood, sweat, tears, heaps of prayers and a couple of torn muscles, we made. Aim high and work hard for those dreams you decide where are your limits,” Marike continues.
Mariske had a good start and rode comfortably in the top 10 for the first 2 laps. She fought hard and her consistancy throughout the race ensured her a 13th place after 6 laps on one of the hardest tracks on the circuit.
The Short track race resulted in a third row start at the XCO race on 5 July 2019 where Mariske finished 20th. “The XCC race was brutal and there is no margin for error,” Mariske added.
