Madida and Eggar at UCI World Cycling Centre (SUI)

13 October 2016 – KwaZulu-Natal BMX enthusiasts Manqoba Madida and Dylan Eggar are currently at the UCI World Cycling Centre (WCC) in Switzerland. They are there to take part in a BMX training camp, which identifies young talent from around the world.

On being selected, Madida said: “The selection for the UCI training camp was based on my performance. I got to go there because I am good enough to be there.”

Klaarwater-based Madida said that he has been pushing non-stop in order to always be bettering his performance. “I have been working so hard, sweating a lot, and just doing the best that I can. I am feeling so excited. Its great for the future, and its such an opportunity to go over and to show them what I’ve got,” he said.

Durbanite Eggar said: “I got told that I had been selected, presented with the opportunity, and that I was on my way to Switzerland, and I’m really looking forward to the experience.”

KwaZulu-Natal Cycling Development Officer and BMX Coach, Tyrone Johns, said: “It’s a new initiative that the UCI has introduced in order to find younger talent around the world. The appeal was sent through to the federation, we had to apply and the UCI had to then approve,” he said.

Johns mentioned that the BMX community was very excited for Madida and Eggar’s trip to Switzerland. “We are really excited for them. They are both Junior men, they’ve been racing together for five years, and they’ve both been number one and two in the country. They are part of the long term future goal for BMX,” he said.

The WCC Multisport training centre boasts a plethora of tracks catering to all cycling disciplines. Madida and Eggar will be spending time on the BMX Supercross track, Watt Bike testing, and conditioning whilst they are there.
