The 2018 Gravel Travel MTB was the 10th edition of the race, first held at Diemersfontein, then Kleinevalleij, Doolhof and this year at a new venue – Linton Park Wine Estate with the majestic Groenberg Mountain presiding over the historic Estate, which is minutes away from the charming and rustic town of Wellington.
The race showcased the fantastic flowing single tracks around the Wellington area, which are regularly used on the Cape Epic and other national cycling events as the Nissan Trailseeker. Although the race previously had 3-4 different distances, the regular options were the 25km and the 50km distances.
Nicol Carstens came back to defend his title on the 50km race and did that very successfully. In the women’s category Leorine de Wet won the 50km race. The event organiser is planning some new additions to the 2019 event to make it more accessible and attractive for different levels of riders.
Linton Park Wines were excited to welcome supporters and participants to the estate with loads of food stalls, beer and amazing wines available.
