About Fedhealth MTB Challenge

Mountain-biking enthusiasts of all ages can expect a route experience like no other at the 5th annual Fedhealth MTB Challenge at Boschendal Farm Estate (The Retreat) on Saturday, 7 September 2019 and Sunday, 8 September 2019.

The Fedhealth MTB Challenge Kids Event will kick off the action on Saturday, 7 September and caters for ages 0 – 13 with junior MTB enthusiasts choosing between a: 500m (0-5 years), 1.5km (6-9 years) and a 5km (10 – 13 years) event. “SA’s future mountain biking heroes will get to experience this exciting sport under the watchful eyes of their parents,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports. “The routes are safe and short enough for mom and dad to run alongside junior if they so wish. This event will not be timed, as it’s about having fun, enjoying the sport and spending time with families and friends.”

The action will intensify on 8 September with the Fedhealth MTB Challenge Marathon (+-60km), Half Marathon (+-30km) and Fun Ride (+-15km). “The Marathon (+-60km) will primarily consist of single track, vineyard roads and jeep track,” confirms Meyer.

“The first 5km will give riders a chance to settle down before the Boschendal single tracks start. Riders will get to take on the infamous Helshoogte climb with a well-deserved drop into Bartinney Skyfall. Included in the mix will be Nicknaks (in Banhoek), well-manicured Stoltz Trails, sensational single track and unbelievable scenery. This route is suited to the fitter rider that has a fair level of technical single track skills. Riders can look forward to a great day out on the trails. The single track will be awesome, but the climbs will be tough.”

“Ideal for newcomers to the sport the Half Marathon (+-30km) will feature easy going vineyard roads with a bit of single track,” continues Meyer. “The single track will be free flowing and does not require technical skill. Riders will be in awe of the awesome views on offer in Banhoek and Boschendal.”

“The Fun Ride (+-15km) highlights Boschendal’s spectacular trails,” says Meyer. “Beginners will love this event. This event is the ideal opportunity for parents to spend some time with their children outdoors.”
