Cycling South Africa’s Track Commission has great pleasure in announcing that the following riders have been selected to represent South Africa at the 2017 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Montichiari, Italy from 23-27 August.
Track Cycling Selectors chose the team based on the results from the 2017 SA National Track Cycling Championships with the men selected by the best three Individual Pursuit times and the best overall rider in the endurance events; while the women selected were the fastest two 200m times and the fastest Individual Pursuit time.
Junior Men Manager: Abdul Davids
Junior Women Manager: Zanne Parsons
The riders will be competing predominantly in the team events.
Mr Abdul Davids has been selected as the Team Manager for the young men and their goal is to break the current Junior Team Pursuit National Record of four minutes 25 seconds, which is achievable considering the individual times that the young men achieved during the National Track Championships in Bellville.
Mrs Zanne Parsons will be accompanying the women as their Team Manager and will support their objectives to break the Team Sprint National Record. This feat has been done before, when the Jessica-Brown-and-Courtney-Smith combination set a new National Record at this year’s National Championships in Bellville. They also raced well together during the African Track Continental Championships in Durban. Likewise, Ashleigh Parsons and Courtney Smith have competed will together in the Madison events, winning the junior races at the Continental Champs and challenging the Elite times as well.
Congratulations on your selection and we wish you every success.
