The Houw Hoek (HH) MTB Tour is one of the most popular MTB events on the Western Cape cycling calendar taking place from 4-7 May, attracting a line-up of 740 riders. The event offers an opportunity for a family-and-friends breakaway weekend, with some of the best MTB Routes in and around one the oldest and most beautiful venues, the Houw Hoek Inn.
The event will celebrate the 9th edition of the Tour, which was originally known as the Wines2Whales Pre-Ride. Six years ago it was renamed the Houw Hoek Tour, when the Start & Finish line was moved to the Houw Hoek Inn. A key objective of the weekend Tour is to offer MTB riders a cost effective, interesting and do-able multi-stage event on some of the most famous MTB Trails.
Stage 1 includes the Paul Cluver, Thandi and Houw Hoek trails, purposely build by Cape Trails. A new and interesting change on the route is the discontinuation of Kili Hill 1 on the Paul Cluver Wine Estate. The Cluver’s increased the height of the Rietvlei dam wall by 5 meters, creating a new and stunning contour route, eliminating an unnecessary drop and climb.
Stage 2 will start at the Houw Hoek Inn, and go via Botriver, where it narrows into the Wildekrans Winery and Hermanus trails, finishing at Hermanuspietersfontein Winery in Hermanus. Both stages are approximately 50km with a maximum of 800m climbing, making it the perfect multi-stage entry level event.
