Final countdown to the 2020 Medihelp Stellenbosch Cycle Tour

The Medihelp Stellenbosch Cycle tour hits the Cape Winelands on Sunday, 19 January 2020 from 06h00. This challenging 97 km route scales Helshoogte Pass with a 1 191 m ascent and rewards you with spectacular scenery. The race caters for novice and experienced cyclists alike and is a premier seeding event for the 2020 Cape Town Cycle Tour. The event is back in the heart of the winelands, Stellenbosch High School where it was last held in 2017. The entry fee remains the same as 2019: R350 and R330 for PPA members.

The route will take you over the beautiful Helshoogte, through Pniel and right towards Franschoek until you get the Wemmershoek turn at about 21km into your ride. This will be the last stretch until you reach your first waterpoint at 30.5km in front of Pearl Valley Golf Estate. From there you will cycle towards Paarl and at 36.8 km you will turn right onto Lustigan Rd/Drakenstein road. You will stay on Lustigan for a short distance before turning right again into Denneboom & Sonstraal road at 39.9 km.

The second refreshment station will be at the 55.1 km mark shortly after Wellington graveyard, rehydrate as your next waterpoint is on the R44 opposite Windmeul Winery at the 63.5 km mark. You will be welcomed into Klapmuts with another waterpoint at 79.8km where you will start your final journey back to the venue. The last push is in sight once you hit the Medihelp waterpoint at Knorhoek with only 9km to go! Grab a banana and have some Coke for the final stretch. The finish will be on Helshoogte road before Idas Valley and a neutral zone will take you back to the venue where you will receive your well-deserved medal and Coke. Take your bike to the secure bike park whilst you relax and enjoy the hospitality on offer.

The info tent will be able to answer any questions and the bikeshop will be at the start to assist with minor bike adjustments and will be selling any last-minute spares you may need. Seattle Coffee will be there for your caffeine fix with varies stalls which include pancakes, food, beer, cooldrinks, biltong, massages, ice cream and lots more! Kids entertainment will allow the kids to have some fun whilst mom and dad enjoy the live entertainment on offer. Ensure you stay for prize giving at 11h00 where R60 000 in prize money is up for grabs for the winners, lucky draw will follow immediately after where great prizes can be won.
