Greyton, one of the Western Cape’s best-loved mountain-biking meccas, sees the return of The Greyt Escape; a three-day mountain bike stage race from the 15th to the 17th of June 2019. The event showcases the incredible trails on offer in the Riviersonderend Mountains and provides the perfect excuse for a long weekend away in the picturesque country village.
The quaint country village of Greyton with its old-style, warm hospitality brings to the discerning mountain biker terrain that challenges, rewards, and finally releases the rider to reminisce about an experience that won’t be forgotten.
Race Director, Anneke Viljoen, says the 2019 event holds true to the promise of a boutique-style event as in previous years, where riders, together with their friends and families, can bask in the weekend’s entertainment.
For the avid mountain-biker, there are some new and interesting single track additions to the existing route, and The Greyt Escape Trail Run is also back due to popular demand, this time round with two distances to choose from – 6km or 12km. Details can be found on www.thegreytescape.co.za/the-greyt-escape-trail-run/
Stage 1: 62km – The longest but arguably easiest stage gets you warmed up and into the swing of things right from the start. If you’re roadie, be sure to secure a proper lead on Stage 1 as things get more technical as the weekend progresses!
Stage 2: 64km – The more punchy route follows the spine of the old Greyton Classic route but cuts a bit of the distance to give you a killer compact day of fun – perfect mountain-biking pleasure!
Stage 3: 45km – Short, sharp, and fun! This stage is an action-packed selection of the close-to-home Greyton trails. If you can climb, and know how to descend, there is still time to climb a position or two on the GC.
