What an exciting start to the first ever Breedenet Cape Duo challenge, set in the beautiful Slanghoek Valley on the grounds of Slanghoek Kelder our team and solo riders took to the start line ready for the road time trial.
Spectators saw Riaan Launspach of Team Landrover N1 City One Life put in a steady ride and tag his teammate Paul Fowler in the first ever tag team stage of a multi discipline race.
George Todd crossed the mat as our first Solo, Champion of Champions contender for a quick switch to mountain bike to head to the hills.
What an honour to see the Linus van Onselen, former World Champ and his partner Chris Brand not only wearing number 1 but walking away with the prize for best time trial in the Masters category.
Our other winners of the day included; Lehane Oosthuizen and Leorine de Wet of Ceres Cycles, Winners of the ladies duo best time trial, Charl-Pierre Esterhuyse & Robert Hobson of team Breedenet, winning the men’s Duo Best Time trial, Team Silverback, Marthinus Kruger & Yolande de Villiers won the mixed team categoryl and our winner in the solo Champion of Champions went to Morne van Greunen of Endurohub.
Brand Ambassador Letshego Zulu tackled the road stage leaving her Cape Duo Ride4Gugu team mate Maurice Mdolo to handle the Mountain. When asked about her experience of day 1 she said “ the organisation is very professional, for an event that’s in its first year it is very well put together, the branding and just the overall event experience, I am very impressed”.
Tomorrow riders head to Welbedacht – Schalk Burger and Son’s Wine Estate for a great road challenge – heading over the picturesque Bainskloof Pass and back again. The Stellendbrau King of the Mountain jersey & prize money is up for grabs.
