Bestmed Eden Street Mile Series will once again take place in 2017 with Cycling also included in the program.
On 16 December the Bestmed Klein Karoo Street Mile will take place in Oudtshoorn and the first leg of the series will run along the historic Baron van Reede street in Oudtshoorn. It finishes in front of the CP Nel Museum, formerly Oudtshoorn Boys’ High and alma mater of South Africa’s first dream miler, De Villiers Lamprecht who was head boy of this school.
On 18 December the Bestmed Madibaz Street Mile will be hosted at NMU George Campus.
The scenic circular route on the NMU George Campus is very popular with spectators as they can watch the race unfold against the spectacular backdrop of the Outeniqua Mountains. A cycling criterium race will be held where cyclists will race around the track for a certain time +1 lap.
The cyclists will compete in: U/9, U/11 & U/13 categories; U/15 & U/17 categories; Vets over 44 categories and lastly the Elite U/23 & Vets under 45. These 4 categories will compete for podium positions in the male and female competition.
The prize money allocated to the cycling categories is R15 000 and all the participants will receive a medal and the podium positions a separate podium medal.
The cycling event is conducted under the rules of Cycling South Africa and gear ratios apply for junior and younger, No CSA licence checks will be done. In the Criterium race the lapped riders will be pulled off the track.
