With the Absa Cape Epic, the world’s premier mountain bike race only weeks away, what better way to test your strength and fitness than to take on and conquer the Imbuko Big 5 Challenge on 22 February 2020.
The Imbuko Big Five MTB Challenge aims to be the only South African race that tests riders on an international level when it comes to hill climbing. “We aim to grow the Imbuko Big Five MTB Challenge in becoming the benchmark event to test skill and endurance to compete in the ABSA Cape Epic and other international mountain bike races.”With 75 kilometres through the gorgeous mountains of Wellington and 5 peaks adding up to a 3000 metres climb, the Imbuko Big 5 Challenge is the ultimate one-day challenge to test your endurance and fitness both physically and mentally.
“It’s crazy, 75km with a 3000m climb is going to be a lot of fun. I’ve never done a race with so much climbs in South Africa, so I think if you can maintain on these climbs you can pretty much do anything!” – Candice Lill, SA Ladies PRO.
“It was a fantastic route, and a good test for the Cape Epic and really good organization. I will come here again for sure!” – Daniel Geismayr, Elite Men’s winner 2019.
“I think if you finish the Big 5 you will be fine for any day in the Cape Epic.” – Theunis Van Zyl, Imbuko Owner and Mountain biking enthusiast.
