The 1000m ascent through the magnificent rolling foothills of the Overberg will be an adventure to remember. The Overberg 100miler takes place on 29 July, and will take riders through the beautifully blooming yellow Canola fields around Potberg through Cape Nature’s Potberg reserve.
Riders will meet their supporter vehicle or support box at Malgas waterpoint-neutral zone, where riders will have 45 minutes to refresh and cross the majestic Breede river on the only hand driven Ferry in South Africa. With about 1950m of climbing over 100 miles, this fast pace race will really test the participants’ endurance. For the not so fit there will be a ‘Chicken Run’ of 90km to enjoy.
This race will make a great family weekend outing to Swellendam and the Overberg region. With the race start and finish at the Swellendam show grounds and one easily accessible support and spectator point at the Malgas ferry, this will be a logistical breeze. For riders without support vehicles the organizer will offer a support box that will be transported to Malgas.
#AroundthePot offers great value for money with beautiful scenery through blooming canola fields, with waterpoints at 35km, 50km, 75km, 102km and 135km. The route mainly consists of fast flowing, rolling hills on gravel roads.
With 1900m of climbing over 160km this race is for the semi-fit to fit riders, but the 13h30 cut-off times on 102km at Malgas will easily be reached.
#AroundthePot is more an endurance than a technical ride, and weather conditions can also play a role to make things more interesting. Finishing the Overberg 100miler at the beautiful Drostdy Museum will be challenging yet rewarding.
