Cape Rouleur 2017 – The year of the Four Passes

The HotChillee Cape Rouleur 2017 kicks off month from 5 – 9 March with 160 pro, former pro, celebrity, and amateur riders from 16 countries across Africa, America, Australasia and Europe. The challenging 5-day event will include two coastal stages, over 550km and nearly 5,500m of climbing including the Steenbras Dam climb for the first time. It will also feature the “Four Passes” with riders tackling nearly 2,000m over Helshoogte, Sir Lowry’s, Viljoens and the Franschhoek Pass on Stage 3.

The edition will be made up of 20% women, the largest percentage of female cyclists on any HotChillee event to date, including 15 yr old UK rider Eleynor Bäckstedt who will be the youngest ever Cape Rouleur participant. Elynor won the LONDON-PARIS 2016 women’s jersey at 14 yrs and has her eye on this year’s Cape Rouleur’s women’s jersey. She will be riding for Team Bäckstedt HotChillee alongside young South African cycling talent.

Team Bäckstedt HotChillee is managed by Paris-Roubaix winner and cycling legend Magnus Bäckstedt who will be riding alongside rugby legend and Cape Rouleur veteran Joel Stransky who has never missed the race which is in its 6th edition.
